Jul 1, 2020 at 14:25 comment added Spencer Barnes @Mary That makes sense I guess - and yet, some breeds of horse are stronger than others (I'm thinking shire horses or belgians), so hopefully a similar effect could be achieved with centipedes?
Jul 1, 2020 at 12:23 comment added Mary @SpencerBarnes So many more legs means that each one is proportionately weaker. Spending resources on superfluously strong legs means less successful reproduction.

Jul 1, 2020 at 9:42 comment added Spencer Barnes haha, and I thought 4-wheel-drive was good off road; let's try 100-leg-drive!! Would be great for stability, but probably not that effective in say a swamp (try caterpillar tracks hahaha). Yes @Mary, horses need shoes because they weren't evolved to carry riders&kit, but does this problem still apply when spread across so many more legs / points of contact?

Jun 29, 2020 at 2:58 comment added user6760 Can your centipede-like critter trip over while navigating a bend?
Jun 29, 2020 at 2:21 comment added Li Jun if we ignore the square cube law problems, regarding the design, i suggest the back to be more flatter something like this and this (just imagine it as the back shape rather than overall body shape, the belly can be plum or big like your original) in my opinion it can help better stability and more comfortable to make sure the goods and the people dont stumble or fall easily when the centipede zig zaging or climbing.
Jun 29, 2020 at 1:48 comment added ProjectApex If they're essentially scaled up centipedes without facing the issues of such growth and aren't as aggressive as normal centipedes regarding their riders, you'll only have to worry about it not suddenly charging at animals to feed, because if that thing can work exactly like an improved version of 4a centipede scaled up as a horse, I'd expect a few species to be extinguished ,cause that will most likely occupy a superpredator niche.

Jun 28, 2020 at 21:56 comment added Mary Horses need shoes because their hooves are evolved to carry the weight of a horse, not a horse, a rider, and all the tack. So, yes, probably our centipede would need shoes without hand-waving about more sturdy feet.
Jun 28, 2020 at 21:19 comment added Plutian The issue with most giant bugs is that their body plan is designed for small ones. Their physique can't easily be supersized as their muscle and carapace can't withstand the increased weight and they would crush themselves. That aside, it is said the amount of oxygen available is directly linked to the size if insects. The more oxygen, the bigger the bugs.
Jun 28, 2020 at 20:54 comment added Seallussus It's a fine idea. But man. You have to either change a lot of the appearance of the creature or condition humans not to be totally freaked out by a huge disgusting bug. Maybe cover them in a sort of light materials that hides most of their features. Also we are breading them for a while so think dogs and horses so you can change different aspects of their bodies.
