I feel like this is the most noobish question ever - anyway, imagine an asteroid hits earth and the atmosphere is now full of stuff, successfully blocking the sun from earth. There are people still alive on the planet.

Assuming the sun isn't 100% blocked, enough for people to see their hands in front of their faces in "daylight" at least, does this affect electricity and how?
