An idea I like to write about a lot is aliens that are dependant on their own biological evolution over technology. I was wondering what kind of adaptations a species that could rewrite their own genetic code at will for rapid adaptation and evolution would have to undertake in order to achieve space travel without relying on spaceships. What kind of biological armour/protection would they need? How would they evolve a propulsion system? And what crazy adaptation would be needed for explained biological warpspeed?
