Britain's navy was a greater threat, mitigated successfully by the U-boats, until the convoy system made it less effective. Likewise Japan needed to control the oil and rubber reserves in the Pacific held by the Americans, for their war effort. Nasty yes, but not crazy. The Red Army could reasonably be discounted, until after the battle of Kursk. | |
