When you are close enough to them, there comes a point where their magnetic field is stronger for you than the sun's. This is the same for gravity too though, so my comment also applies to the other answers you mention. If magnetism and gravity were to suddenly not work this way, we would all start falling immediately off Earth and toward the sun; ow. ;)
