Feb 21, 2020 at 10:17 comment added LukasExemplar I feel like any aliens who could enslave another species, perhaps entirely, would be advanced enough to just automate any work a slave could do and end up having no use for human slaves.

Apr 15, 2017 at 1:06 comment added Hot Licks I have seen it claimed that human-to-human slavery is/was not really economically advantageous, at least not for long periods of time. Rather, some creatures appear to take pleasure in controlling other creatures, especially, it seems, if the controlled creatures are reasonably sentient and rational.

Apr 14, 2017 at 17:54 comment added vsz @OhBeWise : the energies required for interstellar travel are so mind-boggingly large, that just slowing down to conquer a planet and speeding up again (with a ship large enough to conquer and administer the planet) will require more fuel then all the resources currently found on Earth. And if an alien civilization is capable of interstellar travel, anything we have in the means of fuel and supplies will be completely useless to them.

Apr 12, 2017 at 21:12 comment added C. S. Wright @pluckedkiwi, to clarify: the aliens are taking humans back to their homeworld as slaves for the purpose of mining various natural resources that have sprung up over eons in what was previously (and is still sometimes) an otherwise exotic yet hostile volcanic part of said planet.

A2: "This may take a while." A1: "Use the natives. Their numbers and knowledge of this world will expedite the process. Bring the strongest among them with the cargo - we will need them if we are to maintain it all properly. Now go. We cannot afford to further delay our mission." --Et. al. We are a means to an end.

Apr 12, 2017 at 13:34 comment added Sulthan Why would they take humans to other planets? It would be probably cheaper to let them produce goods on Earth, under alien regime.
Apr 12, 2017 at 13:02 comment added pluckedkiwi We make great pets. Could you further clarify exactly what you mean by slavery, as the bounds of that strongly shape the rest of your question.
Apr 12, 2017 at 11:10 comment added Tomáš Kafka Note that this genre entered mainstream just as the western civilization was waging wars in 'less developed' countries and commiting atrocities there. Might it be that movies/books exagerrating fear of aliens (they would have enslaved us if we didn't strike first) were something regime wanted to happen?
Apr 12, 2017 at 10:39 comment added Roger Lipscombe Strictly slavery? Or is it just that humans are tasty?

Apr 12, 2017 at 4:12 comment added Friendlysociopath Differences between the species would make it more likely rather than less or so I'd imagine. Judging by our own experiences- the more different something is- the less human you have to treat it.
Apr 12, 2017 at 2:51 comment added C. S. Wright @jose_castro_arnaud, I'm open to suggestions, but I've been operating under the assumptions that the aliens, like us humans exploring the New World, are exploring for exploration's sake, and that they continue to do so when they find anything profitable or interesting.
