Mar 1, 2017 at 2:56 comment added Sherwood Botsford In passing: A couple decades ago I did a tour of the Point du Bois dam on the Winnipeg river. The dam had been built in 1911. The turbines were horizontal axis with the upstream end bearings made of Lignum vitae, and lubricated with a water drip. In 1983 they were still using the original bearings.
