Mar 7, 2017 at 18:40 comment added Bazul Following up on Nathaniel Fords point, even if the axial tilt is large and provides maximum shadow, there will always be times in the middle of spring and autumn where the shadow is negligible. Given your long year, this time will be even longer. What is the reason your people stay in the shadow, and how do they react when the feared brightness is upon them?
Jan 7, 2017 at 13:12 comment added Nathaniel Ford Before any assertion about what the shadow looks like from the surface some assumptions need to be put forward about the width and axis tilt in relation to both the earth and the sun of the rings. If it matches the solar equatorial plane there is going to be almost no shadow, ever. If it matches the terrestrial equatorial plane (probable) the shadow will vary based on season and the width of the rings.

It's a great visualization for the rest of the planet, but provides no new answers to the questions I have specifically about the shadow.
