Aug 2, 2016 at 12:13 comment added OnoSendai @Xen2050 Thanks for providing me with the single most awesome argument! The secondary argument would be 'potential kinetic energy' (the amount of energy used to send the spaceship to space and cut and move the moon blocks around are orders of magnitude smaller than the energy of said blocks at re-entry)
Aug 2, 2016 at 11:17 comment added Xen2050 Can't you just slam the heavy-duty starship into the city? Or launch up & drop a few tons of solid heat-resistant stuff (metal, rock, etc) that would mostly survive re-entry? Nothing special about a piece of the moon, probably a lot more expensive & slow going there for some "ammunition"... unless you just really really want to say "I crushed them with the moon"
Aug 1, 2016 at 17:20 comment added OnoSendai @SerbanTanasa Surely, enough to atomize small, un-patriotic pebbles. But a baby of that size would survive some ablative action.
Aug 1, 2016 at 17:19 comment added user3652621 Interesting. Isn't there a lot of, uh, hot air, in between the Moon and Oppela?
Aug 1, 2016 at 17:15 comment added OnoSendai @SerbanTanasa quote: "[...] the feasibility of retrieving a 7m asteroid and bringing it to Lunar orbit estimated the cost at $2.6 billion." That would be 368 tons of astro-fun, assuming a somewhat light density of 2.05 grams per cubic centimeter.
Aug 1, 2016 at 17:15 comment added user3652621 sounds dangerously cheap. I'm surprised there's no cloud of rocks in high orbit right now, waiting to pounce.
Aug 1, 2016 at 17:12 comment added OnoSendai @SerbanTanasa Oh, it should be fairly easy to implement very precise ballistic calculations. And yeah, I'd say so! And about costs, check this link: minorplanetcenter.net/blog/…
Aug 1, 2016 at 17:09 comment added user3652621 Better have some accurate targeting system on that moonrock. Does that fit within my trillion dollar budget?
