Jul 30, 2016 at 6:50 | comment | added | JDługosz | I was reminded of the night stalker from After Man. This book is from 1981, and was widly discussed and inspired diaramas and exhibits featuring some of these creatures. I see they came from bats, so probably for the same logic I used above. (I thought they came from rats, so couldn’t find a reference earlier).

Add another idea.

Jul 28, 2016 at 7:28 | comment | added | JDługosz | The limb structure may be different from Earthly tetrapods to begin with, so you can get something that’s more different than bat or pterosaur rather than a duplication. But still use rather than lose the individual bones and points of articulation.
Jul 28, 2016 at 6:43 | comment | added | ApproachingDarknessFish | I had originally conceptualized this idea thinking bird wings had the same structure as bat wings. Might go back to that idea.

Jul 27, 2016 at 23:58 | comment | added | JDługosz | Right. That has not happened on Earth and the wing limbs seems to be a dead end. But it didn’t have to be that way.
Jul 27, 2016 at 23:54 | comment | added | TrEs-2b | So they basically re-evolve hands?
