Jan 27, 2019 at 12:15 comment added user42528 There are however bird species with fairly developed claws on their wings, at least during infancy (e.g. hoatzins and turracos) so I think that is a counterpoint to the idea that the code for hands has been "trashed"

Jul 30, 2016 at 6:50 comment added JDługosz I was reminded of the night stalker from After Man. This book is from 1981, and was widly discussed and inspired diaramas and exhibits featuring some of these creatures. I see they came from bats, so probably for the same logic I used above. (I thought they came from rats, so couldn’t find a reference earlier).

Jul 29, 2016 at 7:46 comment added ApproachingDarknessFish The idea of the talons becoming hands and the wings becoming legs is really interesting, but brings up unfortunate references to a certain villainous pod racer.

Add another idea.
Jul 28, 2016 at 7:28 comment added JDługosz The limb structure may be different from Earthly tetrapods to begin with, so you can get something that’s more different than bat or pterosaur rather than a duplication. But still use rather than lose the individual bones and points of articulation.
Jul 28, 2016 at 6:43 comment added ApproachingDarknessFish I had originally conceptualized this idea thinking bird wings had the same structure as bat wings. Might go back to that idea.
Jul 27, 2016 at 23:59 comment added TrEs-2b Seems like an interesting idea, Quadrabirds.....
Jul 27, 2016 at 23:58 comment added JDługosz Right. That has not happened on Earth and the wing limbs seems to be a dead end. But it didn’t have to be that way.
Jul 27, 2016 at 23:54 comment added TrEs-2b So they basically re-evolve hands?
