Oct 23, 2014 at 23:19 | comment | added | Shokhet | @TobyAllen Why do you think this question does not pertain to worldbuilding? .....I have created a world with these parameters, and would like to know how far I can take it....is this not a "worldbuilding question"?
Oct 23, 2014 at 21:31 | comment | added | Toby Allen | This question is off topic.

Oct 21, 2014 at 23:29 | comment | added | Dronz | @Shokhet I wrote that before you added the extra comments. This version is much clearer what you are asking.

Oct 21, 2014 at 1:45 | comment | added | Shokhet | @Dronz As I said above -- this is not a question about Eragon. This is a question about worldbuilding that involves magic. Do you think that should be made clearer in the question?
Oct 21, 2014 at 0:40 | comment | added | Dronz | This seems like a good question for scifi.stackexchange.com
Oct 20, 2014 at 23:22 | comment | added | Shokhet | @githubphagocyte See above comment. For your second comment; no ....just used Eragon as shorthand for the type of magic I was thinking about, but all relevant information is here.
Oct 20, 2014 at 23:20 | comment | added | Shokhet | @TimB Also, keep in mind that a human might only be able to use all his muscles, at the same time, in one direction....I don't know how many humans who can do that.
Oct 20, 2014 at 22:46 | comment | added | trichoplax is on Codidact now | Are you looking for speculation based on the description in your question, or canon evidence based on the specific fictional series mentioned? That is, should other knowledge of the Inheritance Cycle series be disregarded?
Oct 20, 2014 at 22:37 | comment | added | trichoplax is on Codidact now | @Shokhet as described, I would expect the magician to be able to lift either more weight than naturally, or to be able to hold it aloft for longer than naturally, due to being able to use the equivalent of all of the muscles, rather than just the ones that can practically be used for lifting. Is this the kind of consideration you are seeking in answers?
Oct 20, 2014 at 22:09 | comment | added | Shokhet | @TimB [1] Don't remember, it's been a while.....let's assume not. [2] How much is that, minus the strain of lifting the human's own arms? Remember, his body doesn't have to be directly involved at all.
Oct 20, 2014 at 22:07 | comment | added | Tim B | Why is the answer not just "as long as a human could lift" ?
Oct 20, 2014 at 22:07 | comment | added | Tim B | Are they constrained by range at all?
