Jun 20 at 17:39 comment added Richard Kirk @RonJohn I assume all sensible precautions have been taken before anyone steps outside at all. But, even if all your instruments told you that the air was breathable, you would still feel nervous.

I think I'd drop probes from space (like we do on Mars) to check for radiation (from above, from the air, from the ground, etc), mineral content of the ground, take water samples, etc.
