Battles are won before they are fought, for a hundred reasons. Each side engages either because they must, or (more often) because they think they know the situation and disposition of the other side well enough to be confident -- and we're nearly always wrong about most of what we think we know. Nearly everything about an enemy's situation, disposition and even training traces back to logistics in one form or another.
