(Unlike in mammals, where the rib cage is flexible to allow for respiratory movements.) One broken rib would not compromise structural integrity. With a broken wing, the bird cannot fly, because in flight the weight of the body is supported by the wings, and broken bones are broken and cannot support anything. | |
