Jul 21, 2023 at 19:51 comment added AlexP The rib cage of birds is rigid, the ribs do not move and do not flex. (Unlike in mammals, where the rib cage is flexible to allow for respiratory movements.) One broken rib would not compromise structural integrity. With a broken wing, the bird cannot fly, because in flight the weight of the body is supported by the wings, and broken bones are broken and cannot support anything.
