Solid projectiles have a number of benefits that Energy-type weapons don't have - mainly revolving around the need to dissipate all that Kinetic energy.

Now, sure a Laser has a lot of energy to dissipate too, but with a big enough Heat Sink or Shield or thing, it's just absorbing energy.

Whereas a solid projectile, you have Newton's laws of Motion - Equal and opposite reaction e.g. Knockback/Stagger.

Even in the real world, where someone wearing Body Armour gets shot by a conventional firearm - they still feel it, scale it up to the speeds a Coil Gun could achieve and we are talking some serious down-range effects even if the round doesn't penetrate

Then if you are using physical armor to stop it, you have to deal with things like Spalling etc.
