Feb 24, 2023 at 12:53 comment added Fattie One simple way to look at it. Companies make things. (You can call them guilds, corporations, conglomerates, clans, whatever you want.) Say you want to have "cars". In fact, look at the world of today. The smallest company, which can make Cars, has X thousand people in the company. (You can look it up.) (Of course, that's just the cars per se, not the steel, plastic, etc.) You can quickly see that nothing would be possible with only 200,000 people.

Feb 22, 2023 at 0:11 comment added chasly - supports Monica What resources are on the island? Is there oil they can drill for? Other fossil fuels? Can they find iron ore for making steel? Is there copper for electric cables, plumbing etc., Are there diamonds for machine tools? Do they have rare metals for electronics? Do they have abundant fresh water? Is there room for agriculture? etc. etc.
Feb 21, 2023 at 23:52 comment added thegreatemu Do the explorers intentionally bring supplies intended to kickstart a long-lived economy, or do they have only a smattering of equipment? Is the island random, or chosen for the purpose (e.g., the presence of mineable iron and copper)?

Clarifying question

Feb 21, 2023 at 15:21 comment added AlexP 200,000 was roughly the population of Attica (the region of which the capital was Athens) in the 4th century BCE, about the time when Alexander the Great conquered Greece. It is not clear from the question how exactly is the "modern day knowledge" supposed to the propagated across generations...
