As long as it consists of materials we understand and can replicate then we should be able to copy the whole thing. It only breaks down if there are parts we simply cannot manufacture. (Project Hail Mary did this some. The alien ships were somehow made from a noble gas turned solid. We had no idea how to manufacture such a thing. We know what it is but not the process to make it. Avoid that, though, and it should all be feasible.) "Contact" is a great example of this concept in use, though. | |
