The 250,000 figure only happens because the vast, vast majority of those shots don't actually hit anyone, and weren't even necessarily trying to. I guess with zombies you don't really need suppressive fire, since they're not (generally) shooting back at you. But you do need to land a much higher percentage of your shots than you would with a typical target (where just one well-placed shot might be enough to take them down).

They can probably get together a few billion rounds. Ten million necromorphs might well make them run out.
Sep 20, 2022 at 16:47 comment added Graham The maths don't work for the supply chain. Let's suppose we have 2 orders of magnitude less bullets needed here, so 2500 rounds per zombie. Then to kill 1.5m zombies, you need 3.75 billion rounds. For comparison, the entire US military used around 6 billion rounds between 2002 and 2005. That means for one engagement, you need to supply as many rounds as were shipped to Iraq and Afghanistan in 2 years.
