Just one working example of a "room temperature, standard pressure" superconductor to reverse-engineer would be a massive boon to research, and a myriad of practical applications are already just waiting for one to be discovered. The material doesn't have to even be entirely alien, like maybe the secret is some isotope readily available on Earth that had never been tested because the expense of enrichment (of the previously "uninteresting" isotope) meant that no researchers ever got around to testing materials based on it due to cost alone.
