Jul 19, 2020 at 13:26 | comment | added | John | @LiJun what are the chances someone who went to the past with zero research will know about human kites, and by novelty I mean something like a circus act, a publicity stunt, which is what early hot air balloons were since they could not be controlled or steered.

Jul 19, 2020 at 6:45 | comment | added | Li Jun | @John well the kite thing is how chinese utilize it though, including flying a person for siege. its not just for toy, unless i mistaken your meaning regarding novelties.
Jul 19, 2020 at 3:34 | comment | added | John | @TheDaleks bronze age cultures had forks, they are just a luxury utensil, most people just used their fingers. the missing ingredient in concrete is the cement, which is the part that actually makes it harden, portland cement in modern concrete, pozzolana for roman concrete. kites are fine but they are just novelties, hot air ballons will be the same unless you actually know some engineering and chemistry.

Jul 19, 2020 at 2:43 | comment | added | Li Jun | @TheDaleks oh yeah and my idea is cheap actually, some of them just need clay or clothes and a view stick or excess material, sorry quite laggy here.
Jul 19, 2020 at 2:10 | comment | added | Li Jun | @TheDaleks outside of the concrete ingredients i believe.

Jul 19, 2020 at 1:55 | comment | added | Li Jun | @John i dont know that, i though they only know spoon and use knife during that era, well maybe i can try chopstick, that can change europe culture at least though i dont know do john know how to use chopstick or not, well thats how traditional paper making process i know though, can you tell me what the concrete ingredient is? thats maybe true if your aim is to carry human but outside of that, it still can be use like how kite is use that i mention there.
Jul 19, 2020 at 1:39 | comment | added | Li Jun | @TheDaleks well yeah, i did say this thing already exist somewhere or exist a view century later most answer so far like that, regarding tools that require other tools invention at least mine is not, as far as i notice, since my printing idea doesnt necessary need to be use with paper to print.
Jul 18, 2020 at 22:50 | comment | added | In Hoc Signo | I have to agree with @John; all of these ideas are things that either (a) existed but were absurdly expensive or (b) didn't exist, but require tools-to-make-tools which the protagonist doesn't have.
Jul 18, 2020 at 13:45 | comment | added | John | Forks already existed, they were just too expensive for most people to bother with. Printing requires paper, and paper making requires actually knowledge which John does not have, what you described will make a mess but not even the crudest of paper. Concrete has one other ingredient the one that actually makes it concrete and John does not know how to make it. hot air balloons that can do something useful, that is something more than a side show act, requires liquid fuels, metal burners, and a lot of engineering.
