May 18, 2015 at 10:44 comment added Fhnuzoag www-materials.eng.cam.ac.uk/mpsite/interactive_charts/… If we're making a modern sword, we'd probably still use steel. We can go for a harder material that can hold an edge better, but we'd sacrifice toughness and run the risk of the edge shattering.
May 18, 2015 at 10:34 comment added Fhnuzoag @Oak What modern material are you thinking of? If you are using a modern material, anyway, there is no point making it a katana.
May 18, 2015 at 10:27 comment added Docteur A hidden blade is probably more risky than anything. Bashing with the shield should be followed by stepping back and attacking with a proper weapon.
May 17, 2015 at 18:06 comment added Oak @Fhnuzoag You are correct, the ancient weapons were slightly blunted to make them stronger. However you disregarded something. I mentioned that the blades and protection would've been crafted out of a modern material which is both lighter AND stronger than steel, thus making them way more reliable
May 17, 2015 at 11:03 comment added Fhnuzoag Katanas are actually no lighter than western swords. Sharpness is not an asset for long term use - sharp means there is less material on the edge, so the blade is fragile. Military weapons were actually very slightly blunted.
May 16, 2015 at 19:02 comment added HadesHerald You may also want to look into the possibility of a Metal Storm gun as the base for your gunblade. They are shell-less, electrically fired guns that you could put up to 4 rounds per barrel (assuming you had the length to do so) and fire them one at a time or all at once.

Typo
May 15, 2015 at 21:40 comment added Ghanima I guess you were going for "Guns fire an finite ammount of rounds" instead of "infinite"?
