May 13, 2015 at 22:44 comment added Ángel This was also my first solution: Humans are used because they are not "logical", thus their actions can't be predicted (as has been done for AI computers in that fiction). We could argue that their PRNG in space conditions is too weak (or inputs can also be received by the attacker). However, this would also require that a radioactive isotope carried within the aircraft would be predicted, which doesn't seem realistic.

I do not want AI controlled fighters to exist," from the question and "This way, while a majority of forces will be supported by AI, some advanced targets will be more successfully engaged with human pilots who can be truly unpredictable," from your answer do not seem like they are compatible.
May 11, 2015 at 17:30 comment added Murphy thing is: humans are even worse at random number generation. I mean really really bad.
May 11, 2015 at 17:30 comment added Samuel Your laptop might not be able to generate a truly random number. But, you can generate a truly random number with a high precision temperature sensor, or just as easily, with the multitude of sensors available to a space ship.
