Sep 12, 2019 at 16:25 comment added Phil M @cegfault I didn't mean Trump as president, but once his term is over and he wants to keep hold of his business empire for another 50+ years. The show "Apprentice" comes back but only is released once every two years instead. Disadvantage is that you really have to trust the people while you are "out". What happens if Jr decides he is tired of all the crap and "accidentally forgets to pay the bill"?
Sep 12, 2019 at 12:10 comment added Chronocidal @cegfault Relevant XKCD... xD
Sep 12, 2019 at 12:03 comment added cegfault @PhilM for businessmen yes, for politicians no. The president is term limited so Trump wouldn't be able to do that without giving up the presidential powers (hahahaha). I think you have a great idea for the recurring businessman. "I have this idea. Go do it and I'll be back in 18 months where it better goddamn be done!" feels like a Steve Jobs type of thing to do.
Sep 10, 2019 at 16:18 comment added Phil M Not much different than if someone went into cryro for 1.5 years. There may actually be a number of people who DON'T want to be around... imagine someone like Steve Jobs or Trump only working for 1 month and then "asleep" for 18. They could rule and expand their empire for decades/centuries especially if they know that they are already close to death (age, disease, etc).
Sep 10, 2019 at 12:24 comment added cegfault In America, a prisoner who has been imprisoned continuously for 20 years or more qualifies for (some) disability benefits. Leaving the politics out of it, there is a recognition that the more time spent away from society will, in some sense, cripple your ability to re-engage society at a later date.
Sep 10, 2019 at 8:30 comment added Mars ③If these are career celebs, then they'll probably market the rebirth and sell the crap out of the death. You'll have much for intentional death
Sep 10, 2019 at 8:27 comment added Mars ②For a business owner or a politician, there is typically a Vice or Committee. They can afford to be out of action for a while and the world won't end. In fact, they could even use that to their benefit when they know things will go south temporarily (How is it my fault? I was dead!)
Sep 10, 2019 at 8:25 comment added Mars ① That assumes that they're pop culture. I'd guess that most of today's rich made their money from something other than that. In fact, most actors wouldn't hold a candle to the wealth of buffet or Kardashians.
Sep 10, 2019 at 8:11 comment added Chronocidal @Mars For you, (presumably) having a sensible, proper, productive job, it's probably unnecessary. Especially if you can't afford to Rez. But for career "celebrities", keeping up with trends, fashion and pop-culture is half their job. (The other half being arguing with each other and having constant "scandals") As with Politicians or rich Business Owners, their opponents and the media will be looking for any opportunity to make them look bad, to tear them down and make a quick buck off them. Imagine an actor 'dying' in September 2017, and being asked their opinion of Weinstein when back.
Sep 10, 2019 at 5:10 comment added Mars So if I died in May 2015, I'd wake up in Nov/Dec 2016, read this list, maybe google stuff for a few hours, then not really care. The need for the crash course is entirely insignificant.
Sep 10, 2019 at 0:59 comment added celtschk Also: You have 18 month where you can't care about your wealth. There's no way you can react to market changes. You have to rely on others to manage your money well — and if you're rich, chances are that you are because you are better than others at managing your money.
Sep 9, 2019 at 22:56 comment added Chronocidal @stix Hey, I said it had "begun". I didn't say it had managed to get very far! xD Once the official fires the starting pistol, it's up to the runners to get past the start line...
Sep 9, 2019 at 21:14 comment added stix "Brexit has begun" I'd say a lot of people in the UK are waiting for that scenario to actually happen. :P
