Jun 13, 2019 at 11:32 | comment | added | cybernard | @Falco They probably have a pill or injection for emotional problems by then. Plus I am sure the ship has built in life signs detectors. So if someone goes from the ship to a shuttle pod an alert is sent out.
Jun 13, 2019 at 11:17 | comment | added | Falco | Would it be acceptable for them to fake an escape-pod misfire? IF everyone believes it is just a malfunctioning empty escape pod landing in the south pacific, it could be conceivable no one is in a hurry to check on it ?
Jun 13, 2019 at 11:12 | comment | added | Falco | @cybernard it depends on the reason why you call in sick. If you call in sick for burnout/death of a relative, you will most likely not be escorted to the sickbay and your therapy will probably not start right away, since stress is a trigger for your condition, so they will probably give you some time and space...

Jun 12, 2019 at 15:51 | comment | added | cybernard | Who are these people to the ship? If your a bridge officer who sits within the same room as the captain, you will be missed as soon as your work shift starts. If your maintenance man #30 you could conceivably get away with it much longer. Sure you can call in sick, but as a bridge officer you will have to report to sick bay and there only goal is going to be make you healthy ASAP. Also "not detected" by whom, the ship, earthlings, or both.

Jun 11, 2019 at 19:39 | comment | added | ShadoCat | So far, you've said that this is an "escape pod," not a purpose build "sneak pod." There will be no stealth features built in because the builders want it to be seen. The pods purpose is to be "step 1 of being rescued."

Jun 11, 2019 at 18:18 | comment | added | AlexP | One meter wide? Sure. Two meters? Most likely. Ten meters? Maybe. Fifty meters? No way. On the other hand, if it comes ballistic from deep space it may well be mistaken for a meteoroid.
Jun 11, 2019 at 18:16 | comment | added | Carl Witthoft | How big is the pod, and what counts as "detected" ? We don't see small asteroids until they light up in the atmosphere; if your pod can "glide" and soft-land, and add in some stealth-radar coatings, it wouldn't be too hard to land in some remote location.
Jun 11, 2019 at 18:15 | comment | added | hszmv | Are these pods built in features to the Space Ship? Also and I want to be really sure about this, the Ship is a reasonably modern day human built space craft and not relying on super science or alien tech in anyway?
