Mar 2, 2019 at 10:42 | comment | added | Mormacil | The usage of crossbows go back to the iron age if not bronze age. They're not complicated tools compared to things like chainmail, plate armor, spoked wheels, arched doorways, etc

Mar 2, 2019 at 0:26 | comment | added | user535733 | Based upon the enemy's stated capability, most Bugs Bunny / Road Runner gags should work: Switched signs, painted tunnel on wall, free food, animals in drag, exploding gifts, cats painted to look like skunks, etc,

Mar 1, 2019 at 22:58 | comment | added | Escaped dental patient. | OK, I suggest you edit your answer to reflect the stockpile. Are the monks (apart from being inept), are they strong and fit? Or are there support services - eg the novices able to take arms given the necessity?
Mar 1, 2019 at 22:49 | comment | added | JETM | @Agrajag I think it makes sense for them to have a small stockpile of iron and bronze to work with. Someone's about to discover a mine, but that's probably about two weeks in the future.
Mar 1, 2019 at 22:31 | comment | added | Escaped dental patient. | Copper level tools are easy to make, but little good against case-hardened carbon-steel.What metals are available to them - is there scrap from the previous age for them to work with? Do they have a usefull but unread hord of scrolls about smelting - for example?

Mar 1, 2019 at 22:18 | comment | added | JETM | @Agrajag Good point. My understanding was that swords were supposed to be harder to make, but I suppose if they have woodworking tools there's no reason they can't have metal weapons for everyone.
Mar 1, 2019 at 22:07 | comment | added | Escaped dental patient. | Hi, you say "A forest just outside provides raw material for construction." - in order to make use of wood as raw materials they require axes, and saws - both of which were available in 3000 BCE, but only because there was metalworking - in which case why are there not many swords? Are you saying they simply can't be bothered to figure out how to make anything?
