Only shortwave radio broadcasts rely on the skywave being reflected by the ionosphere. Longwave broadcasts rely on the groundwave following the curvature of the Earth and going around mountains; and ultrashortwave broadcasts are not reflected by the ionosphere and need repeaters to cover a nation's territory. | |
