Oct 12, 2018 at 16:58 comment added Alexander Need a better understanding of a switch process - the "new society" is landed on XXI century Earth without any material possessions (i.e. books of their language), or 1900 society suddenly obtains tons of alien machinery? When society member wakes up and wants to go on a horse ride, is his horse still in the barn, or he has a garage with a modern car in it?

Oct 12, 2018 at 16:56 comment added John Your real problem is how long will that technology and its infrastructure take to breakdown while they learn. Electricity will not last long with people who don't know how to run the generators.
Oct 12, 2018 at 15:30 comment added user535733 I don't understand the question: How would a 1900-western-society have any trouble adapting to computers that haven't been invented yet?

Oct 12, 2018 at 14:41 comment added RonJohn "a different set of humans with a different script and language ... at the level of western society around the year 1900." So... foreigners need to quickly learn the language and all the technology we've created in the 120 years in which humanity has invented & discovered more stuff than in the previous 100,000 years? It's gonna be tough. Real, real tough. Imagine having to figure out how to run a nuclear power plant before it goes critical.
Oct 12, 2018 at 14:36 comment added JBH The only computers around the year 1900 were Babbage-style mechanical difference engines (the most common version was a cash register). Are we talking alternative history? Could someone in the 1900s reverse-engineer a modern computer? If so, consider this question and this question.

Are you asking if something invented by human Americans, if given to human Russians, how hard would it be for the Russians to figure it out? They've been doing it for 200+ years without much difficulty.
