Aug 14, 2018 at 22:15 comment added Mephistopheles @Starpilot Seriously!? They steer it by turning one side on and the other off?! O.Okay, I'm rolling with your idea and Punintended.
Aug 14, 2018 at 22:12 comment added Ummdustry Perhaps treads would be a better pick for this situation? Also I'd strongly advise AGAINST making the skates move independently of the feet, there's really not much point and it'll just decrease stability and reliability.

:(
Aug 14, 2018 at 22:01 comment added Starpilot Maybe you could just put the armor on a truck? You only really need to use the armor in battle, and if the armor doesn't have enough power to do some light walking, then it probably won't be much help on a battlefield. Also, one reason treads are used on tanks is to distribute weight across more surface area so that the tank doesn't sink in sand. Human feet are already relatively small for use on uneven ground, a bunch of little wheels would be even worse.
Aug 14, 2018 at 21:34 comment added Mephistopheles I was thinking about something like those self-propelled glass balls from Jurassic World, but way smaller lemon-shaped and made of rubber.
Aug 14, 2018 at 21:27 comment added user535733 The fellow in armor is going to like the 200m of deep, sucking mud anchoring them in the enemy's kill zone even less....
Aug 14, 2018 at 21:25 comment added Mephistopheles @Punintended "I don't like the sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere"
Aug 14, 2018 at 21:21 comment added Mephistopheles @Alexander Kay, that's fair

Aug 14, 2018 at 21:19 comment added Alexander @Mephistopheles you need to cheat more. Wheels do not work well on snow, you need to have tracks or skis.
Aug 14, 2018 at 21:15 comment added Mephistopheles @CortAmmon "That's a beastly challenge in and of itself" That's why I'm cheating, I retract the wheels on stairs and very rocky terrains.
Aug 14, 2018 at 21:11 comment added Cort Ammon I get the impression that if you can solve the all-terrain requirement, you could make millions from DARPA. That's a beastly challenge in and of itself. We typically don't even try to use wheels in rocky mountains.
