May 14, 2018 at 13:58 | comment | added | automaton | Love the idea, but I do want to point out a major plot hole or pitfall that people rarely think of: culture. If you have the equivalent of Shaolin Monks with superpowers hidden away from society for thousands of years, it doesn't matter how much they nominally "know" about the outside world. Having the desire to throw out the only way of life you've ever known and embrace one drastically different isn't something that generally happens in a single generation. What are the chances your entire suburb would ever forsake their worldly possessions and pursue "better" lives as primitive monks?

May 10, 2018 at 20:45 | comment | added | Drigan | Would there be any physical effects at the location of teleportation? I'm thinking a loud popping sound from the displaced air rushing in to fill the void where the teleporter had been, or away from where they arrived. Might the teleporter (or their clothes) suffer minor burns from the friction of the air around them moving so fast? Or maybe instead the air they displace is moved to the place they came from? (Still a problem if the density of the air is different.)

May 9, 2018 at 12:32 | comment | added | Murphy | Also, can they control their momentum at the target location? If not, if they teleport 2700mi east or west do they arrive plouging into the ground or flying into the air? Ditto for north/south, do they arrive with an extra few km/hour angular momentum. If they can control their arrival momentum are there limits such, like can they teleport into or out of a car going 60mph without their bones being crushed by colliding with something going 60mph faster/slower than them.
May 9, 2018 at 12:28 | comment | added | Murphy | Do they have problems teleporting uphill, how about 300 miles straight up? Do teleporters have to go along for the ride or can they teleport objects without them? Do they have any ethical problem teleporting drugs? Smuggling high value items? Transporting large volumes of cash across national borders for money laundering?

May 8, 2018 at 2:36 | comment | added | Eric Towers | Why do teleporters have to move along the surface of the planet? The distance between San Diego and New York in a straight line (through the planet) is about 2200 miles, noticeably less than 2400 miles, the straight line along the surface distance, and 2700 miles, the driving distance (and becomes more noticeable for larger fractions of a half-circumference).
May 7, 2018 at 20:13 | comment | added | John | what are the condition of teleportation, do they have ot be in physical contact with the object? how much do they need to know about where they are going?
