Feb 21, 2018 at 15:03 comment added John @DavidC they only keep their livestock at home at night, they still need to go outside for most of he day to forage.
Feb 19, 2018 at 20:29 comment added David42 Subsistence farmers keep their livestock at home, either inside this house or in separate structure very near. There is a story that in the Soviet Union the agricultural experts in Moscow put a stop to that and set up model farms with all of the livestock in pens far away from the houses. The result was predictable.

Feb 19, 2018 at 9:26 comment added adaliabooks @RonJohn It's an inherent issue with designing worlds like those in RPG games... it rarely makes sense for both the humans and the monsters to continue thriving, it's far more likely one would achieve dominance and wipe the other out. But that doesn't make for a very interesting world.
Feb 19, 2018 at 9:08 comment added RonJohn @adaliabooks "it sounds like everywhere outside the towns is overrun with monsters" :) I left a question comment on that very impossibility...
Feb 19, 2018 at 9:03 comment added adaliabooks @RonJohn True, but in the real world despite predators it was/is still safe to farm and live in the countryside, in this world it sounds like everywhere outside the towns is overrun with monsters, which would be a slightly different situation I think.
Feb 19, 2018 at 8:52 comment added RonJohn @adaliabooks when wolves and mountain lions were the top predators, they ate deer, and yet deer survived. Thus, there will still be herbivores from which the gardens need protection.
Feb 19, 2018 at 8:32 comment added adaliabooks @RonJohn Monsters should eat the herbivores at least.. weeds would still be an issue.
Feb 19, 2018 at 7:32 comment added RonJohn "Vegetable crops do not need to be watched at all times." Weeds. And herbivores.
